Brampton Manor Squash & Racketball Club in Chesterfield bagged most of the silverware in the Boy’s section of the Derbyshire County Closed. Brampton Manor’s Ashley Davies the England No.6 U15 amazingly captured THREE titles - the U15s, U17s and U19’s. Alex Wilson also of Brampton Manor won the plate final in the U15. In both the U17s & U19’s final’s Ashley took on fellow Brampton Junior Jonathan Lovegrove. Both finals saw Ashley Davies edge through, in very well contested matches 3-2, with both players giving their all to show us their best squash. Brampton Manor’s Matt Barton took his first County Title in the Mixed Under 11 age group while team mates Henry Wall & Isobell Favell came in 2nd & 3rd places. The boys U13 saw the current England No.1 U13 Russell Clark of Abbeydale in fine form as he defeated Adam Turner 3-0. This was a turnaround after Turner had beaten Clark in the semi-finals of the U15 event. Matt Lamin of Brampton Manor beat Cameron Wells 3-0 in the U13 plate final. - Jason Fearn

{article/topic_title} Sheffield Junior Open

The Sheffield Junior open took place at Abbeydale Park Rackets and Fitness Club last weekend (8-9 November 2008). The event has grown over the last few years and now attracts entrants from all over the country. The England Squash sanctioned event attracted over 100 entries with events for boys and girls from u9 to u19. The competition was a monrad so everyone had plenty of games throughout a jam packed weekend. Local interest featured young Nick Wall (jnr) from Abbeydale winning the u9 mixed event, Jade Thompson also from Abbeydale winning the u17 girls event, and Ashley Flathers from Brampton Manor winning the u15 boys against another Abbeydale player, the fast improving Tom Turner. In the second half of the season Abbeydale is staging another England Squash sanctioned event with Silver status which should attract an even bigger field. Many thanks to all those local volunteers who helped make the event such a big success especially Ian Peach, Howard Baxter, Andy Raine and Jeremy Turner. - Mark Hornby [From the Webmaster: Local squash news like this is great to hear and enhances the website.
